The City of Salina is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as a Utility Worker I in the Utilities Department. This position is crucial for maintaining and improving the city’s water and wastewater systems, ensuring reliable service and public health. Responsibilities include working with pipelines, valves, manholes, pumps, and performing electrical or mechanical maintenance tasks to ensure efficient system operations. Candidates should be hands-on, detail-oriented individuals with relevant experience in utility construction or similar fields.

Primary Duties:

• Install, repair, clean, tap into pipelines for water/wastewater systems.

• Inspect and maintain valves and manholes across the network.

• Perform maintenance on pumps and control mechanisms within the utility infrastructure.

• Carry out fire hydrant installation and repair activities as needed.

• Provide basic electrical or mechanical upkeep related to utility equipment operations.

• Conduct general maintenance tasks such as cleaning work areas or landscaping around utilities infrastructure sites.

• Assist with chemical feed system installations or repairs when required.

Qualifications:
Education: Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.).
Experience: At least two years of experience in utility construction trades or a comparable field is recommended.

Additional Requirements:
Candidates are required to live within 40 minutes of downtown Salina for emergency response purposes and possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM; occasional call-outs during evenings/nights may occur based on operational needs.

Compensation Details (Based on Qualifications): Hourly Rate: $24.47–$25.69/hour | Annual Salary Range: $50,898–$53,435/year
Employees receive additional pay incentives for responding outside regular hours (between 6 PM–6 AM).
