We are sharing a specialised remote opportunity for experienced software engineers to support advanced hardware control and lab automation systems for a leading technology research environment. This project focuses on developing sophisticated Python-based control software for aero-acoustic wind tunnel systems used in advanced research and experimentation. The role involves designing control mechanisms for complex hardware systems, integrating robotics and sensor data, and building reliable automation workflows for experimental environments. Key Responsibilities Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Python software for controlling complex hardware systems Implement and optimise control algorithms for real-time performance, including PWM control for motors and actuators Develop systems to generate various airflow conditions including laminar, turbulent, gradient, and time-varying flows Build and manage control interfaces for robotic HATS movers, lift systems, and spatial audio setups Integrate motion capture data (e.g., Optitrack) for real-time system alignment and tracking Develop automated calibration procedures for wind speeds, acoustic sensors, and measurement systems Build data pipelines for collecting, processing, and analysing experimental sensor data Troubleshoot complex software and system-level issues across hardware and software environments Document software architecture, APIs, and operational procedures Ideal Profile Strong candidates may have: Professional experience developing Python software for hardware control, robotics, or lab automation Strong understanding of control systems theory, signal processing, and data acquisition principles Experience working with complex mechanical or laboratory systems Strong debugging skills for multi-component systems involving hardware and software Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams Educational Background: Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field Nice to Have Experience with motion control systems in robotics or automation environments Familiarity with spatial audio technologies such as High-Order Ambisonics (HOA) Experience integrating motion capture systems such as Optitrack Experience with advanced aerodynamic measurement techniques such as Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) Experience building internal tooling with GUI frameworks Experience developing cross-platform software across Windows, macOS, and Linux Why This Opportunity Work on cutting-edge software systems controlling advanced aerodynamic testing environments Contribute to research projects involving robotics, acoustics, and aerodynamics Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams in high-impact R&D environments Apply advanced Python engineering skills to real-world scientific and hardware challenges Contract Details Full-time role supporting a leading technology research environment Remote work with collaboration across engineering and research teams Competitive compensation between $70–$95 per hour depending on experience Engagement administered through an enterprise staffing partner Projects may extend or adjust depending on scope and performance About the Platform This opportunity is available through a leading AI-driven work platform.
