HTML Email Designer/Developer - Ad-Hoc

Job Title: HTML Email Designer / Developer Location: 100% Remote, US-Based Position Type: 6 mos. W-2 Contract – Retainer / Ad-Hoc Engagement, Potential for Extension Estimated Annual Hours: 80–100 hours per year Start Date: April 1, 2026 Overview TalentFish is casting a line for a skilled HTML Email Designer / Developer to support a dynamic marketing communications environment. This is a remote contract opportunity operating under a retainer-style engagement model . This role serves as backup coverage for an internal HTML email designer , stepping in when coverage is needed due to PTO, illness, or extended absence. The engagement is on-call and ad-hoc , meaning workload will vary significantly throughout the year. Candidates must be comfortable with inconsistent hours and occasional short-notice requests , while maintaining strong responsiveness and availability when support is required. What You'll Do (Skills Used in This Position) The contractor will provide HTML email design and development support , including: Develop and update HTML newsletters using established templates Build custom HTML email campaigns based on provided creative designs Convert visual designs into fully functional HTML email templates Ensure emails render properly across: Email clients (Outlook, Gmail, Apple Mail, etc.) Browsers Mobile and desktop devices Maintain clean, deliverable HTML email structure Test and validate emails for cross-client and cross-device compatibility Support occasional quick-turn email development requests during coverage periods Primary Technologies Candidates should have strong hands-on experience with: HTML (email-specific development) CSS Responsive email design Email templating and rendering across multiple email platforms Helpful but not required: Basic familiarity with Photoshop or design tools What You Bring Approximately 5+ years of HTML email development experience Demonstrated expertise with responsive email design Strong understanding of cross-client email compatibility Experience converting design files into HTML email templates Ability to work both within existing templates and create custom templates Strong attention to detail in email rendering and formatting Ability to respond quickly and collaborate effectively during active coverage periods Comfort working in an ad-hoc, retainer-based engagement model Portfolio Requirement Candidates ideally will provide a portfolio of HTML email work , including examples such as: Marketing emails Newsletters Campaign emails Responsive email designs Compensation Information The expected salary range for this position is $35 - $45 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
