Senior Power Line Design Engineer (HV) Employment Type: Permanent Industry: Energy & Power Utilities / Renewable Energy Salary: Highly Competitive (Market-Related, Senior Level) Location: Roodepoort / Cape Town / Durban Location flexibility based on project requirements Role Overview A leading engineering business within the power utilities and renewable energy sector is seeking a Senior Power Line Design Engineer (HV) to take full technical ownership of high-voltage transmission and distribution projects. This is a senior, KPI-driven engineering role requiring proven, hands-on experience in HV power line design. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end design delivery, technical leadership, and engineering support across multiple large-scale infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities & Performance Indicators The role will be measured against the following role-critical KPIs : End-to-end design of HV power lines (132kV – 765kV) Delivery of accurate, high-quality engineering outputs including: Line layouts Detailed drawings Technical specifications Design calculations HV line routing and tower spotting using PLSCADD Full compliance with local, international, and client engineering standards On-time delivery of complete design packages across multiple concurrent projects Technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to junior engineers and designers Coordination with internal teams, contractors, and external project stakeholders Provision of engineering support during construction, commissioning, and final handover Minimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable) Candidates must meet one of the following qualification criteria: BSc Eng / BEng with a minimum of 7 years post-qualification experience OR BTech with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification engineering experience Additional mandatory requirements: Professional registration with ECSA (Engineer or Engineering Technologist) 7–10 years proven experience in HV transmission and distribution projects Demonstrated experience within the power utility sector (Eskom exposure advantageous) Strong, practical experience using PLSCADD (essential) Valid South African drivers licence Own reliable transport Advantageous Skills & Experience The following will be considered strong advantages: PLS-Pole and PLS-Tower PSSE MS Project Project management exposure Experience with tendering processes, EOIs, and technical bid support Whats on Offer Highly competitive, senior-level remuneration Technically complex and high-impact HV infrastructure projects Exposure to large-scale transmission and distribution networks Performance-driven, professional engineering environment Long-term career growth within the energy and power sector
