Metal Fabricator-Welder - Job Summary As a Metal Fabricator and Welder , you will be responsible for cutting, shaping, assembling, and welding metal materials such as steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. You will produce a wide range of products including frames, tanks, platforms, and custom industrial or architectural metalwork. This role ensures that all fabricated products meet exact design, safety, and quality requirements. Key Responsibilities Fabrication & Layout: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols to plan layouts and determine material requirements. Precision Cutting & Shaping: Measure, mark, and cut metal parts using saws, guillotines, and drill presses, and shape components using bending machines or rollers. Welding Operations: Set up and operate MIG, TIG, Stick (SMAW), flux-core, and oxy-fuel welding equipment across various positions (flat, vertical, horizontal, overhead). Assembly & Fitting: Assemble structures using clamps, jigs, and fixtures to ensure precise alignment and fit. On-Site Installation: Carry out fabrication, welding, and installation tasks on-site, following hot-work and site safety procedures. Quality Assurance: Conduct post-weld clean-up and grinding, verify dimensions with precision tools, and rectify any defects to meet client specifications. Qualifications and Skills Certification/Experience: A recognized trade qualification in metal fabrication/welding OR a minimum of three (3) years of proven relevant experience. Technical Proficiency: Strong knowledge of diverse welding methods (MIG, TIG, arc, oxy-fuel) and fabrication machinery. Blueprint Literacy: Highly skilled in interpreting detailed engineering drawings and welding symbols. Safety Commitment: Full adherence to New Zealand workplace safety regulations, including PPE and hazard reporting. Requirements: High attention to detail, physical fitness for demanding tasks, and a valid drivers license.
