Engineering Team Leader Department: Engineering Salary: £56,000 The Role We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Engineering Team Leader to manage a team of multi-skilled maintenance engineers and oversee a diverse range of automated equipment. This position is responsible for ensuring maximum equipment availability, delivering departmental KPIs, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining full statutory compliance. You will lead from the front — combining strong technical expertise with confident leadership to create a high-performing, safety-driven engineering function. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Lead, motivate and develop a team of multi-skilled engineers. Allocate workloads and ensure effective shift coverage. Conduct performance reviews and support structured training and development plans. Maintain appropriate manning levels to meet operational demands. Foster a collaborative, accountable team culture. Maintenance & Technical Delivery Develop and implement a robust Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) programme aligned with manufacturer recommendations. Ensure rapid fault response to minimise downtime. Oversee and support rectification of electrical, mechanical, control, pneumatic and hydraulic faults. Maintain accurate equipment documentation and technical records. Ensure all manufacturer maintenance procedures are adhered to. Manage specialist contractors and service providers. Compliance & Safety Promote and embed strong Health & Safety standards. Ensure risk assessments and Engineering Safe Systems of Work (ESSOW) are in place and maintained. Ensure compliance with all relevant statutory legislation. Continuous Improvement & Operational Performance Drive continuous improvement initiatives. Analyse performance data to optimise equipment reliability and team capability. Ensure availability of business-critical equipment. Oversee spares management and purchasing in line with budget controls. Assist with forecasting and management of annual maintenance budgets. Technical Knowledge & Experience Essential: Full Engineering Apprenticeship. HNC/HND in Electrical, Electronic or Mechanical Engineering. Minimum 5 years’ supervisory experience within an engineering environment. Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding capability. PLC experience (preferably Siemens). Proven leadership and man-management experience. Experience managing preventative maintenance programmes. Strong organisational and communication skills. PC and software literacy. Desirable: Knowledge of inverter drives and ASI/Profibus systems. Component-level repair capability. Understanding of engineering quality standards. Budget management exposure. Key Measures of Success Delivery of departmental and personal KPIs. Equipment uptime and reliability. Compliance with Health & Safety standards. Effective cost control. Team engagement and development.
