Our client is seeking an experienced Roadway Construction Superintendent to lead excavation and heavy highway construction projects from planning through completion. ABOUT THE FIRM Our client is a growing heavy civil construction company specializing in highways, runways, site development infrastructure, and major excavation projects. The company works with both union and non-union crews across diverse project types and scales. THE OPPORTUNITY This superintendent role offers the chance to lead significant infrastructure projects while managing field operations, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring quality execution. You'll have direct responsibility for project success, working closely with project managers and field teams to deliver on schedule and within budget. WHAT YOU'LL DO Planning & Scheduling: - Plan construction procedures based on project timelines and staffing requirements for each phase - Develop and maintain project schedules that meet owner milestones - Schedule crews and coordinate delivery of equipment, tools, and materials to align with work schedules - Schedule all subcontractor work on daily and weekly basis - Communicate schedule updates and adjustments to project management team daily Project Execution: - Direct activities of union and non-union workers on highway, runway, site development, and heavy highway construction projects - Inspect work in progress to ensure workmanship meets specifications and standards - Ensure all work progresses at a pace that maintains schedule and owner commitments - Address and resolve field personnel issues and complaints Documentation & Reporting: - Prepare and review progress reports detailing materials used, costs, and schedule status - Accumulate and accurately enter time and quantities daily with project engineer support - Submit project daily trucking logs and material summary tickets daily - Maintain JULIE dig numbers and refresh as needed - Adjust work schedules based on progress reviews and communicate changes to project manager WHAT YOU BRING Required: - Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management AND minimum 2 years of heavy highway excavation experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience demonstrating comparable knowledge - Strong knowledge of heavy civil construction industry practices and procedures - Demonstrated ability to complete projects on time and on budget - Proven leadership skills managing field crews (union and non-union) - Ability to multi-task across several projects simultaneously - Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word - Self-directed and highly motivated - Strong problem-solving skills, particularly with scheduling conflicts - Ability to work effectively with all levels of field personnel - Excellent communication skills for coordinating with project managers, crews, and subcontractors Preferred: - Experience with MS Project, Primavera P6, Viewpoint, HCSS Heavy Bid, and HCSS Heavy Job Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently - Ability to stand up to 12 hours per day with breaks - Ability to stoop and climb frequently - Ability to walk on uneven terrain frequently at job sites - Ability to drive long distances frequently between sites WHAT THEY OFFER Health & Wellness: - Comprehensive healthcare plans (medical, dental, vision) - Company commitment to employee health and well-being Work-Life Balance: - Generous paid time off Retirement: - Retirement savings plan with company support Culture & Environment: - Fast-paced, dynamic work environment - Team committed to excellence and quality execution - Growing, successful construction company with opportunity for career advancement - Supportive leadership invested in employee success - Pride in delivering high-impact infrastructure projects IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE You're an experienced construction superintendent who thrives in the field managing complex excavation and heavy highway projects.
