Group Leader- Support Worker for People with Disabilities

S.P.A.R.K. (Summer. Program for all Abilities, Recreation and Kindness) is a day camp in Cumberland Ontario for Children and Adults with Disabilities. Group Leaders provide direct leadership to a camper group while supporting and guiding Camp Counsellors. The Group Leaders will guide their groups through camps and report directly to the Camp Coordinator. We are currently hiring a Team Leader for both the children and adult camp groups. 

Responsibilities

• Lead a camper group of about 7 or 8 campers through camp activities

• Supervise and support Camp Counsellors within the team

• Support campers with varying abilities and needs

• Assist with planning and adapting activities as needed

• Respond to behavioural and support needs using approved strategies

• Communicate concerns or successes to the Camp Coordinator

• Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive camp environment

Qualifications

• The minimum age requirement of 18 years old.

• G2 or higher drivers license

• Experience with children, youths and/or adults with disabilities

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

• Leadership skills and experience

• Willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of campers.

• First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain)

• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain)

• CPI certification (Provided by Sonshine)

Contract Details

• Camps run Monday to Friday, from July 13 to August 14

• One week of mandatory training prior to camp start dates

• Required for post-camp duties on the Monday and Tuesday following the final camp week (August 17th & 18th)
