Your Role in Our Mission
The Home Care Aide provides compassionate, non-medical assistance to clients in their homes and communities. The purpose of this position is to promote each client’s safety, independence, dignity, comfort, and overall quality of life.

Care must be provided according to the client’s service plan, preferences, authorized hours, and Monte Bonita LLC policies. The Home Care Aide must maintain professional boundaries, respect client rights, and immediately report any change in condition, safety concern, incident, or suspected abuse.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Home Care Aide may perform the following duties, depending on the client’s authorized service plan:

  • Assist with bathing, grooming, oral hygiene, dressing, toileting, and other personal-care activities.

  • Provide assistance with mobility, walking, positioning, and transfers within the aide’s training and authorized scope.

  • Prepare meals and snacks according to the client’s preferences, dietary instructions, and safety needs.

  • Provide feeding assistance when authorized and appropriate.

  • Perform light housekeeping, including laundry, dishes, changing linens, organizing personal areas, and maintaining a clean and safe environment.

  • Provide medication reminders without administering medication unless separately authorized and legally permitted.

  • Assist with shopping, errands, appointments, and community activities.

  • Provide companionship, conversation, emotional support, and meaningful social engagement.

  • Support clients in developing or maintaining independence with daily living activities.

  • Follow established fall-prevention, infection-control, emergency, and client-safety procedures.

  • Observe and report changes in the client’s physical condition, behavior, mood, mobility, appetite, or living environment.

  • Immediately report accidents, injuries, medication concerns, suspected abuse, neglect, exploitation, or other unusual incidents.

  • Accurately complete time records, electronic visit verification, care notes, incident reports, and other required documentation.

  • Arrive on time and remain with the client for the entire scheduled and authorized shift.

  • Notify the office immediately of any delay, absence, emergency, scheduling issue, or inability to complete assigned duties.

  • Maintain the confidentiality of client, employee, medical, and business information.

  • Communicate professionally with clients, families, coworkers, service coordinators, and other members of the client’s support team.

  • Follow the client’s service plan and all Monte Bonita LLC policies, procedures, and supervisory instructions.

  • Perform other related non-medical duties consistent with the client’s service plan and the Home Care Aide’s training and authorized scope.

Home Care Aides May Not

Unless specifically authorized, properly trained, and legally permitted, Home Care Aides may not:

  • Diagnose medical conditions or provide medical advice.

  • Administer medications, injections, or medical treatments.

  • Perform sterile procedures or skilled-nursing services.

  • Make changes to a client’s service plan, schedule, medication, or diet.

  • Use unsafe lifting or transfer techniques.

  • Accept significant gifts, borrow money, manage client finances, or use client property for personal purposes.

  • Bring unauthorized individuals to a client’s home.

  • Work under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, illegal drugs, or any substance that impairs safe job performance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

  • Must meet California Home Care Aide registration requirements, when applicable.

  • Must successfully complete all required background checks and clearances.

  • Must provide current tuberculosis clearance within the required timeframe.

  • Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certification.

  • Must complete all required orientation, annual training, and competency requirements.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to communicate, follow instructions, and complete documentation. Additional languages are a plus.

  • Must demonstrate compassion, patience, reliability, professionalism, and respect for individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Must have access to reliable transportation and maintain a valid California driver’s license and automobile insurance when driving is an essential function of the assignment.

  • Prior caregiving, home-care, disability-services, assisted-living, or personal-care experience is preferred but not always required.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the assigned position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Depending on the assignment, the position may require:

  • Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, and climbing stairs.

  • Assisting clients with mobility, positioning, and transfers using approved techniques and equipment.

  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects consistent with the employee’s training and the requirements of the assignment.

  • Responding appropriately during emergencies.

  • Working around pets, household cleaning products, bodily fluids, and other conditions commonly present in private residences.

Professional Conduct

Every Home Care Aide is expected to:

  • Treat clients with dignity, respect, patience, and compassion.

  • Respect each client’s privacy, culture, beliefs, personal choices, and right to participate in decisions.

  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.

  • Refrain from discrimination, harassment, retaliation, abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

  • Maintain a clean and professional appearance.

  • Use personal phones only for authorized work purposes or emergencies while providing services.

  • Protect client information in accordance with applicable confidentiality requirements.

  • Avoid sleeping during a shift unless the assignment expressly permits designated sleep time.

  • Follow all mandated-reporting obligations and company reporting procedures.
