Atlantis Foundries is a key production site of Daimler Truck AG, specialising in the manufacture of high-quality cast automotive components. Located in Atlantis Industria in the Western Cape, the foundry plays an important role in supporting Daimler Truck.

The purpose of the Project Engineering Manager is leading the Project Engineering Department responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing capital and operational improvement projects within Atlantis Foundries. The role ensures projects are identified, collated, and planned short, medium, and long term. Once approved, they are delivered safely, on time, and within budget while meeting operational, engineering, and quality requirements.

Summary of Responsibility Areas

Project Delivery (Time, Cost, Quality) Projects are properly planned and delivered on time Projects are delivered within the approved budget Project deliverables are achieved, and scope creep effectively managed Process to ensure project implementation and sign-off is effective

Engineering and Technical Excellence Ensuring compliance with engineering standards and specifications Effectively manage and overcome engineering challenges ensuring projects remain on time and meet desired standards Stakeholder engagement, alignment, and contribution are maintained throughout the project from IA phase to SOP Project lessons learned are adequately recorded, shared, and considered in new projects Operational excellence ensured through robust process implementation, standardization, and adherence

Project Financial Management Short, medium, and long-term planning and budgeting for Capex are actively managed and readily available Project cost management is effective and well managed Projects identified and implemented for cost saving achieve their targets and are sustainable Supplier base is maximized to ensure competitive bidding

Department Budget and Resource Management Oversee allocation and management of the project engineering department budget

Leadership and Team Management Hire, train, and mentor department staff to foster a skilled and motivated workforce Focused development of people with succession planning in mind (GAP analysis)

Qualifications

B-Tech, BSc, or BEng Engineering Degree (Mechanical and/or Electrical) Minimum 10 years of experience in project engineering or project management Experience managing capital projects such as equipment installation, plant upgrades, or process improvements, including the following concepts: Understanding of Safety, Health, and Environmental legislation Machinery operation, automation, maintenance, and mechanics Manufacturing processes and plant operations Engineering drawings, specifications, and equipment installation Capital expenditure project management Complex contractor and supplier management as well as efficient people management
