How You Will Make An Impact:
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will combine your technical expertise with your communication skills to own the development of AI and ML models for personalization and product innovation across the marketplace. Reporting to the Director of Product Data Science, you’ll build retrieval & ranking models for product recommendations, leverage multimodal embedding models to create new customer experiences, and identify opportunities through A/B testing & analytics. You’ll own the development of new ML models or major upgrades to existing models, partnering across technical and business teams to deliver experiences that delight our customers.
In This Role You’ll Get To:
Build and Deploy Models: Own end-to-end development of new AI/ML models and major upgrades to existing models used for personalization and the broader marketplace. Put models into production in partnership with engineering partners.
Quantify Impact: Design and analyze experiments (e.g., A/B tests) to measure impact of AI/ML models, optimize the customer experience, and drive business growth.
Enhance Infrastructure: Partner with engineering teams to improve data pipelines, tooling, and infrastructure, enabling efficient experimentation and analysis at scale.
Communicate Cross-functionally: Communicate progress and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership. Manage stakeholder expectations, effectively guiding conversations on tradeoffs and timelines.
Collaborate Across Teams: Work closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to define solutions, educating cross-functionally to elevate the overall technical expertise of the team.
Contribute to Innovation: Stay aware of emerging trends in AI, machine learning, and data science to advance our AI/ML solutions.
What We’re Looking For:
5-7 years in data science, machine learning, or a related field, with a demonstrated track record of owning model upgrades or building new models in a real-world context
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent industry experience
Proficiency in Python and SQL, along with experience in machine learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow) and deploying models at scale
Expertise in deep learning and predictive modeling, including owning evaluation of models via A/B testing. Prior experience implementing recommender systems and working with multimodal embedding models is a plus.
Given a defined project, proven ability to define the path forward and deliver results in a timely manner, thinking ahead to mitigate risks and driving alignment on tradeoffs
Exceptional ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to a variety of audiences. Able to collaborate across technical and business teams to deliver outcomes in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated growth mindset. Eager to take on challenges, learn new skills, and mentor others to build a strong team culture.
Background in e-commerce, marketplaces, or a related industry
