Industry Leader in High Voltage Electrical Infrastructure
Our client, a nationally recognized EPC firm based in Houston, TX, specializes in the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of complex medium and high-voltage electrical infrastructure across North America.
They are currently seeking a Senior Electrical Testing Technician who is professional, dedicated, and brings a positive, solutions-oriented mindset. This role is integral to the safe and effective testing, maintenance, and commissioning of high-voltage substations and electrical systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and start-up of high-voltage substations and related power apparatus.
- Work on a variety of equipment including:
- Protective relays and relay systems
- Circuit breakers
- Power transformers
- CTs/PTs
- Power cables and grounding systems
- Motors and motor starters
- Station batteries and chargers
- Meters, transducers, annunciators, and alarm systems
- Diagnose issues and recommend corrective actions or repairs.
- Prepare detailed technical reports outlining work performed, issues identified, and solutions implemented or proposed.
- Serve as a professional representative of the company when communicating with clients and project stakeholders.
- Maintain clear communication with internal management regarding project status, resources, and scheduling.
- Prioritize safety at all times, aligning with the companys Zero Tolerance policy on safety violations.
- Support project execution by developing and managing construction drawings, performing engineering calculations, and reviewing design documentation.
- Utilize drafting standards and task-specific software, including document management systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence.
- Maintain up-to-date project schedules and ensure quality and accuracy in all deliverables.
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in Electrical or Electronics Technology, or Bachelors in Electrical Engineering (BSEE/BSEET), or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in the high-voltage electrical field.
Qualifications & Skills:
- NETA Certification (required)
- Knowledge of PowerDB software (preferred)
- Valid drivers license (required)
- Proficiency in MS Office applications
- Solid understanding of electrical fundamentals (AC/DC)
- In-depth knowledge of high-voltage equipment and substation components
- Understanding of protective relay schemes and control systems
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI)
- Working knowledge of civil/structural design codes (AISC, ACI)
- Strong mathematical skills including algebra and trigonometry
- Experience with drafting standards and construction documentation
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
