Senior Mining Engineer

Employment Type: Two Year Contract, Full-time and residential 

Position Summary:

The Senior Mining Engineer Production LHS Drill & Blast will lead the transition from Sub-Level Caving (SLC) to Longhole Stoping (LHS) with Paste Backfill.

This role includes overseeing all aspects of LHS drill and blast operations such as design, drilling quality control, and performance review. The engineer will also train and mentor local drill and blast engineers and contribute ideas to improve long-term designs, processes, and data systems.

Key responsibilities:

• Create accurate LHS drill and blast designs using Deswik.
• Work with engineers and operators to ensure plans are carried out properly.
• Coordinate with the Paste Backfill team to fill stopes correctly and adjust designs as needed.
  
• Help compare planned designs with actual results underground and make improvements.
  
• Support the training team in developing clear and consistent training materials.
  
• Help set work schedules and KPIs to improve drill and blast performance.
  
• Look for ways to improve mine design and planning.
  
• Assist with presentations to share data, plans, and results with key stakeholders.
  
• Keep up with new software tools that could improve operations.
  
• Help with other data-related tasks and general duties.
  
• Follow and promote the Company's ethical guidelines.
  

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Previous Experience Requirements

• Degree or Masters in Mining Engineering
  
• Strong practical experience using Deswik
  
• Able to train others in LHS methods
  
• Good with numbers, writing, research, and reporting
  
• Basic understanding of business processes and mapping
  
• Skilled in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook), including simple dashboards
  
• Comfortable working in diverse teams and with translators
  
• Creative and able to think of new ideas
  
• Good at influencing and encouraging change
  
• Experienced in managing projects
  
• Well-organized, detail-oriented, and proactive
  
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills
