Biology & ESS Teacher (IB / IGCSE)
Location: Rome, Italy

Our client school is a well-established international day school located in Rome, providing high-quality education for students aged 2 to 18. The school offers a complete academic pathway, from early years through to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, including IGCSEs at Middle School level. It delivers instruction in English and promotes multilingualism, offering additional language options such as French, Arabic, Spanish, and Chinese. The school fosters a culturally rich, academically ambitious, and globally minded learning environment.

We are now seeking a motivated and qualified Biology and Environmental Systems & Societies (ESS) Teacher to join the high school teaching team.

The successful candidate will contribute to the school's ongoing success through excellent classroom practice, a collaborative and proactive mindset, and active involvement in the wider school community. You will be responsible for teaching outstanding Biology and ESS lessons, supporting student achievement, and working closely with both academic and student support teams.

Key Responsibilities

Planning and Preparation

  • Prepare short, medium, and long-term plans aligned with curriculum goals.

  • Deliver engaging lessons for high school students as per the academic or cover timetable.

  • Demonstrate subject expertise and interdisciplinary awareness.

  • Use knowledge of student backgrounds and learning profiles to inform planning.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a broad and balanced curriculum.

  • Design and assess homework that complements in-class learning.

  • Engage with Individualised Learning Plans (IILPs) and contribute to their creation and evaluation.

  • Ensure all assessments have clear criteria and are aligned with intended outcomes.

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver high-quality instruction in Biology and ESS in a supportive and challenging learning environment.

  • Promote high standards of student achievement, behaviour, and engagement.

  • Support pastoral care in collaboration with school leadership and well-being teams.

  • Actively communicate with parents and participate in school events and community life.

Skills and Experience

  • Experience teaching IB (particularly IB Biology and ideally ESS) and IGCSE programs.

  • Background in international education and multicultural school environments.

  • Proven ability to raise academic standards and personal achievement.

  • Visionary approach to science and environmental education.

  • Strong communication and differentiation skills.

  • Commitment to collaborative, student-centered teaching.

  • Familiarity with digital tools and platforms to support teaching and learning.

Qualifications

  • Native-level fluency in English (written and spoken).

  • Masters degree in Biology, Science, or a related field (preferred).

  • Recognised teaching certification.

  • Experience with IB Biology (required); experience with IB ESS and pastoral care (preferred).

  • Strong ICT and classroom management skills.

  • High levels of initiative, time management, and professional discipline.
