Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Teacher of Food Technology with a desire to inspire young adults to explore the culinary arts and develop a lifelong understanding of food and nutrition? We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our thriving Design and Technology department in a high-achieving independent sixth form college in Westminster.

About the College:

About the Design and Technology Department:

The Design and Technology department is a collaborative and supportive team with a shared passion for fostering students' creativity, culinary skills, and understanding of food science and nutrition. We have a well-equipped food technology room with modern appliances and resources to support students in developing their culinary talents.

About the Role:

  • Teach Food Technology at A Level, inspiring and challenging students to deepen their understanding of food science, nutrition, and advanced culinary techniques.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Support students in developing their practical cooking skills, food presentation techniques, and understanding of dietary requirements.
  • Guide students in conducting independent research and completing challenging coursework, fostering their problem-solving, creativity, and culinary expertise.
  • Contribute to the department's curriculum development and resource creation, ensuring that our Food Technology curriculum remains relevant, engaging, and rigorous.
  • Foster a love of Food Technology in students, encouraging them to explore different cuisines, develop their own recipes, and consider further studies or careers in the culinary arts.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the college to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment where students thrive.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching practice, keep abreast of the latest developments in Food Technology education, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the Design and Technology department.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Possesses excellent subject knowledge in Food Technology, with a strong understanding of food science, nutrition, and advanced culinary techniques.
  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching Food Technology and a commitment to student success, with a proven track record of engaging and inspiring students.
  • Has strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Is confident in fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and supported to achieve their best.
  • Has experience with advanced culinary techniques and food preparation.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice, contributing to the continuous improvement of their teaching skills and the department as a whole.
