About the Sociology Department:

The Sociology department is a dynamic and collaborative team with a shared passion for exploring social issues, understanding human behaviour, and promoting social justice. We offer a stimulating and engaging curriculum that covers a wide range of sociological topics, from family and education to crime and deviance. We encourage students to engage with sociological research, analyze data, and develop their own perspectives on social issues.

About the Role:

  • Teach Sociology across Key Stages 4 and 5, with the possibility of teaching at Key Stage 3 depending on experience and interest.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and differentiated lessons that cater to a variety of learning styles and abilities.
  • Use a range of teaching methods and resources, including discussions, debates, case studies, and documentaries, to bring Sociology to life for students.
  • Assess student progress, set targets, and provide constructive feedback to support individual learning journeys.
  • Contribute to the department's curriculum development and resource creation, ensuring that our Sociology curriculum remains relevant and challenging.
  • Foster a love of Sociology in students, encouraging them to explore social issues and develop their understanding of the world around them.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the department and across the school to create a cohesive and supportive learning environment.
  • Participate in relevant professional development opportunities to enhance your teaching practice and keep abreast of the latest developments in Sociology education.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Holds QTS or equivalent (or is eligible to apply).
  • Possesses excellent subject knowledge in Sociology.
  • Demonstrates a passion for teaching Sociology and a commitment to student success.
  • Has strong communication, interpersonal, and classroom management skills.
  • Is confident in building rapport with students and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Has a good understanding of the National Curriculum for Sociology and relevant examination specifications.
  • Is committed to ongoing professional development and reflective practice.
