Infrastructure Architect Downtown Toronto, Ontario (hybrid) Full time, permanent The Infrastructure Architect is responsible for ensuring that systems, infrastructure patterns principles, frameworks, and standards—particularly those related to database platforms, middleware technologies, application servers, and message brokers—are designed and implemented to support the bank's evolving business requirements across on-premise and cloud environments. Key Responsibilities: Lead architecture discussions with the bank's application solution architects and security teams to define infrastructure strategies, with a strong focus on: Database platforms (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL) Middleware technologies (e.g., WebSphere, Kafka, MQ, API gateways) Application servers (e.g., WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat) Message brokers (e.g., IBM MQ, Kafka, RabbitMQ) Additionally: Participate in Architecture Review Boards (ARBs) to review, recommend, and propose infrastructure solutions, particularly those involving database, middleware, application servers, and message broker components. Develop and maintain technical documentation, technology standards, and infrastructure designs for the above platforms. Collaborate with GTEP teams to ensure alignment with security and architectural standards across both on-premise and cloud deployments. Identify and analyze infrastructure architecture gaps in database, middleware, application server, and message broker domains. Propose new technologies, establish pilots and proof-of-value (POV) initiatives, and present recommendations to ARBs. Collaborate with the GTEP Architectural Governance team to document and maintain infrastructure standards, patterns, principles, and frameworks related to these technologies. Evaluate and engage with vendors to address operational challenges and assess new technologies for inclusion in GTEP product roadmaps. Lead proof-of-concept (POC) projects for database, middleware, application server, and message broker solutions. Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to transition successful initiatives into production environments, both on-premise and in the cloud. Act as the primary infrastructure contact for relevant aspects of strategic initiatives such as the Data Center Consolidation Project (DCRC). Ensure compliance with operational risk, regulatory requirements, anti-money laundering (AML), and conduct risk frameworks, especially in the context of data handling, messaging, and middleware integration. Must Have: 5+ years of progressive experience in infrastructure architecture , including hybrid cloud and on-premise environments. 5+ years of experience in enterprise database architecture, including relational ( Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL ) and cloud-native databases (Azure SQL, Cloud Spanner, BigQuery ). 5+ years of experience designing and implementing middleware platforms such as Red Hat JBOSS, WebLogic, WebSphere, Apache Kafka, RabbitMQ , or similar. Deep knowledge of middleware integration patterns, service orchestration, and message queuing systems. Experience with API gateways, service mesh, and container-based middleware deployment. Proven ability to design scalable, secure, and resilient infrastructure solutions aligned with enterprise architecture standards. Strong understanding of infrastructure automation, monitoring, and operational best practices. Expertise in database high availability, disaster recovery, replication, and performance tuning. Experience with database modernization, migration strategies, and cloud adoption.
