CCTV Installation Technician

To install, maintain, and repair CCTV and related security systems across client sites and company premises, ensuring high system performance, reliability, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities 1. Technical Delivery Install, configure, and commission CCTV systems (analog, IP, and hybrid) with 98% installation accuracy Diagnose and resolve faults during service calls, achieving a 90% first-time fix rate Conduct post-installation testing to ensure 99% system uptime within the first 30 days Install and maintain: DVRs/NVRs PTZ cameras Infrared and thermal cameras Configure and troubleshoot network components: IP addressing, subnetting Routers, switches, PoE systems Set up secure remote access (VPNs, port forwarding, DDNS) 2. Operational Efficiency Complete installations within an average of 4 hours per site (depending on complexity) Deliver 10–15 installations or service jobs per week Ensure efficient cabling, conduit installation, and cable management Accurately log all work completed and maintain up-to-date job records 3. Compliance & Documentation Submit complete and accurate job cards and reports for 100% of jobs Comply with: PSIRA regulations Sectoral Determination requirements Client-specific policies Maintain zero safety incidents by adhering to OHS and electrical safety standards Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment 4. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Provide clear communication and professional customer service Explain system functionality and resolve client queries Collaborate with supervisors, project managers, and technical teams on escalations Maintain strong, professional client relationships on-site 5. Continuous Improvement Stay current with CCTV technologies and surveillance software Share knowledge within the team and support junior technicians Participate in training, toolbox talks, and compliance workshops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) Technical Performance Installation Accuracy: 98% First-Time Fix Rate: 90% System Uptime (first 30 days): 99% Efficiency & Productivity Average Installation Time: 4 hours per site Jobs Completed: 10–15 per week Compliance & Safety Documentation Accuracy: 100% Health & Safety Incidents: 0 Qualifications & Experience Matric / Grade 12 (minimum) Relevant technical certification (e.g., PSIRA, CompTIA Network+) Minimum 2 years' experience in CCTV installation and maintenance Valid driver's license Technical Skills & Systems Knowledge CCTV & Surveillance Installation and configuration of: Analog systems (coaxial-based) IP-based systems (Hikvision, Dahua, Axis, Uniview) Hybrid systems Experience with DVRs/NVRs, PTZ, infrared, and thermal cameras Networking & IT IP addressing and subnetting LAN/WAN setup and troubleshooting Router and switch configuration PoE systems Remote access setup (port forwarding, DDNS, VPNs) Basic network security (firewalls, VPNs) Cabling & Infrastructure Installation and termination of Cat5e/Cat6 and coaxial cables Use of cable testers and crimping tools Conduit installation and structured cable management Software & Tools CCTV software: iVMS-4200, SmartPSS, Milestone XProtect Mobile apps: Hik-Connect, Guarding Vision Configuration tools: SADP, ConfigTool Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) Basic document/PDF tools Compliance & Safety Knowledge of PSIRA regulations Understanding of OHS standards Safe working practices (heights, confined spaces, electrical safety) Core Competencies Strong technical understanding of CCTV systems Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving ability Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams Good communication and customer service skills High attention to detail and accountability Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments
