Secondary Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

Position Overview They are seeking a dynamic Secondary Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead and coordinate SEN provision across the secondary school. The SENCO will drive the design and implementation of individualized support, working closely with staff, students, parents, and external specialists to ensure effective access to the curriculum for all learners. Key Responsibilities Lead the identification and ongoing support of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the secondary school. Design, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), enrichment plans, and intervention strategies in partnership with teachers and parents. Coordinate case management and maintain accurate, confidential documentation using the school's safeguarding and case-tracking systems (e.g. MyConcern).^ Collaborate with teachers to embed inclusive practices and differentiated instruction within classrooms and across all academic pathways (IGCSE, HKDSE, A Level, and project-based programmes).^ Serve as a key member of the Pastoral and Safeguarding team, advising on SEN-related safeguarding, social-emotional needs, and executive functioning support. Liaise with external professionals (e.g. educational psychologists, speech and language therapists, social services) to coordinate assessments and ongoing support. Support parents and carers through regular communication, meetings, and workshops to strengthen home–school partnerships. Contribute to staff training on SEN, specific learning difficulties, and inclusive practice, promoting a whole-school approach to inclusion. Assist with admissions assessments, interviews, and placement recommendations for applicants with SEN. The Requirements Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a related field. Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, Teaching License) and proven successful experience teaching or coordinating SEN in a secondary school setting. Strong knowledge of SEN best practice and the ability to differentiate instruction and design effective intervention strategies for diverse learners. Native or near-native fluency in English; additional Mandarin ability is highly advantageous (the school values bilingual education).^ Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach and commitment to building a positive, inclusive school culture. Experience in curriculum development and assessment design, particularly in secondary programmes (e.g. IGCSE, HKDSE, A Level or similar). Clean criminal background check and strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection expectations. Desirable: postgraduate or professional qualification in SEN (e.g. NASENCO or equivalent), experience in pastoral care/homeroom, familiarity with educational technology, case management systems, Design Thinking, and Project-Based Learning (PBL), and experience in bilingual or multicultural school environments.
