The Opportunity We are collaborating with manufacturing firms in Byron Center that are seeking skilled Tool Makers. By joining our network, you position yourself for opportunities aligned with your career goals. Key Responsibilities Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges. Perform complex machining operations using manual and CNC equipment (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs). Interpret engineering blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to plan tool construction and repair. Inspect and verify dimensions of finished tools for accuracy and conformity to specifications using precision measuring instruments. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain existing production tooling to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime. Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and implement tool design improvements and process efficiencies. Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tool components based on application requirements. Recommended Qualifications Completion of a recognized Tool & Die Maker apprenticeship or 5+ years of relevant experience. Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering blueprints, schematics, and GD&T. Expertise in operating a wide range of precision machine tools, including manual and CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and EDM equipment. Highly skilled in using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, height gauges) and performing meticulous quality checks. Strong knowledge of various tool steels, carbides, and other materials, including their properties and heat treatment processes. Proven ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair complex tooling and manufacturing issues. Bonus Qualifications Proficiency in CAD/CAM software for tool design or programming (e.g., SolidWorks, Mastercam, NX) Experience operating advanced metrology equipment (e.g., CMM, optical comparator) Specialized experience with Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, or precision grinding techniques Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methodologies Job Titles That Should Apply Tool Maker, Tool and Die Maker, Die Maker, Mold Maker, Precision Machinist, Jig and Fixture Maker, CNC Tool Maker, Tooling Specialist Why Pivot Group The Pivot Group was founded by manufacturing professionals who've been on both sides of the hiring process.
