The Opportunity We are collaborating with multiple companies in Mattawan seeking experienced Tool Makers. Key Responsibilities Design, fabricate, and assemble precision tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures. Interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and CAD models to determine tool specifications. Operate and program manual and CNC machinery (lathes, mills, grinders, EDMs) to machine components. Perform precision measurements using inspection tools like micrometers, calipers, and gauges to ensure quality. Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain existing tooling to minimize downtime and optimize performance. Collaborate with engineers and production teams to improve tool designs and manufacturing processes. Select appropriate materials and heat treatments for tooling to ensure durability and functionality. Recommended Qualifications Completed a recognized Tool Maker apprenticeship program or possess 5+ years of equivalent experience. Proficiency in setting up and operating conventional machine tools (lathes, mills, surface grinders, EDMs). Ability to accurately read and interpret complex blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications. Expertise in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and bore gauges. Solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles. Strong knowledge of various tooling materials, heat treatment processes, and their applications. Bonus Qualifications Experience with 5-axis CNC machining. Proficiency in advanced CAD/CAM software (e.g., NX, HyperMill) for complex surface modeling. Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience. TIG/MIG welding certification for tool repair and modification.
