MIL-Spec Painter

About the Role: The Mil-Spec Painter is responsible for applying high-performance protective coatings and finishes to metal components in accordance with military specifications, engineering drawings, and customer requirements. This role supports precision metal finishing operations within a manufacturing environment and requires expertise in surface preparation, coating application, blueprint interpretation, and quality standards. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in industrial or metal finishing environments and understands the technical requirements of Mil-Spec coatings, solvents, and finishing systems. Responsibilities: Prepare metal surfaces for coating through cleaning, sanding, masking, blasting, and priming in accordance with specifications. Apply coatings, primers, and finishes using spray equipment and other industry-standard methods to meet Mil-Spec and blueprint requirements. Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documentation related to coating processes and finish standards. Mix paints, coatings, and additives according to technical data sheets and manufacturer guidelines. Perform special finishing techniques to achieve required textures, thickness, adhesion, and appearance standards. Replace markings, letterings, and identification labels in compliance with specifications. Inspect finished parts for proper surface finish, thickness, and compliance with quality standards. Maintain proper documentation of coating processes, materials used, and quality checks. Follow safety protocols related to handling solvents, coatings, and hazardous materials. Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant work environment within a fast-paced manufacturing facility. Work overtime or weekends as required to meet production demands. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required. Minimum of five years of experience in a manufacturing or metal finishing environment. Experience applying coatings within a metal finishing or industrial manufacturing setting. Ability to read and execute surface preparation and finish requirements from blueprints and technical specifications. Knowledge of Mil-Spec coatings, surface preparation standards, and application techniques. Ability to perform qualification testing of painting skills prior to hire. Basic mathematical skills to calculate measurements and material quantities. Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a high-volume manufacturing environment. Effective communication skills and ability to work with all levels of staff and management. Desired Qualifications: Experience with aerospace, defense, or government contract coating requirements. Familiarity with thickness gauges, inspection tools, and quality control documentation. Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and hazardous material handling procedures. Experience with sheet metal and extrusion part layout.
