Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Relay & Control (Substation)

Location: Västerås, Sweden (Primarily on-site preferred; limited remote work possible) Scope: Full-time (100%) Contract Period: 2026-04-01 to 2027-03-31 (Extension possible) Language Requirements: (English mandatory; Swedish meritorious) Role Overview: We are hiring a Senior Electrical Design Engineer – Relay & Control for one of our clients in Västerås. In this expert-level role, you will lead the development of relay and control concepts for sub-transmission systems and take responsibility for the electrical design of bay-level cubicles within substations. You will work closely with customers, core project teams, and operating centers (OPCs) to deliver reliable electrical designs while ensuring projects meet technical standards, timelines, and budgets. As a senior expert, you will also contribute to complex engineering activities, provide technical guidance, and support the resolution of advanced technical challenges within transmission and distribution projects. What You’ll Do: Develop relay and control concepts for sub-transmission systems in collaboration with customers and project teams Lead the electrical design of bay-level cubicles within substations Plan, coordinate, and execute complex engineering activities across disciplines Perform technical analyses, studies, and design evaluations Prepare and review technical documentation, drawings, and engineering reports Collaborate with project execution teams in operating centers (OPCs) Support testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities Proactively contribute to improvements in engineering processes, project efficiency, and customer satisfaction Who You Are: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 6 years of relevant experience including leadership/coordination, or another technical degree with 15+ years of relevant experience. At least 5 years of experience in electrical design for transmission or distribution projects The candidate must have SvK AC competence (experience with Svenska kraftnät AC grid standards).
