Job Title: Controller – Heavy Civil Construction Location: Metro Atlanta, GA Compensation: $150K–$170K base + bonus + fully paid benefits Schedule: In-office to start; potential hybrid flexibility Status: Immediate opening About the Opportunity: An established and growing civil construction company in the Southeast is seeking a Controller – Heavy Civil Construction to lead accounting and financial operations for a newly created division. This is a high-impact leadership role supporting a multi-state heavy civil construction operation and partnering closely with executive leadership and operations. This position requires deep heavy/civil construction accounting expertise, including percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, WIP reporting, and job cost accounting. Key Responsibilities: Oversee all accounting operations including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, and cash management. Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage percentage-of-completion accounting and cost-to-complete methodologies. Oversee job cost accounting, WIP schedules, over/under billings, and change order tracking. Partner with project managers and operations leadership to improve profitability and strengthen cost controls. Serve as financial systems owner for Trimble Viewpoint (Vista/Viewpoint), driving reporting accuracy and process improvements. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and support audits, bonding, insurance, and lender reporting. Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning. Build, mentor, and manage the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or CMA preferred. 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience with 3–5+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role. Strong heavy civil or construction accounting experience required. Demonstrated expertise in percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP reporting, and job cost accounting. Hands-on experience with Trimble Viewpoint (Vista/Viewpoint) required. Strong knowledge of GAAP and advanced Excel skills. Proven leadership, analytical, and cross-functional communication abilities.
