The Marine Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of boats, motors, and marine systems. This role involves working on inboard, outboard, and sterndrive engines, electrical and hydraulic systems , and vessel rigging. The Marine Technician ensures all work meets OEM specifications and delivers exceptional quality to keep customers boats operating at peak performance. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Diagnose, repair, and maintain inboard, outboard, and sterndrive engines from brands such as Mercury, Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda Marine, Volvo Penta, and Evinrude Perform seasonal maintenance, including oil changes, impeller replacements, and fuel system servicing Troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, marine electronics, and navigation equipment Service and repair hydraulic steering, trim systems, and marine plumbing Perform boat rigging, including installation of controls, gauges, and electronics Conduct sea trials to verify repairs and adjustments Complete warranty repairs per manufacturer guidelines and submit required documentation Maintain a clean and organized work environment in compliance with safety regulations Communicate effectively with service advisors and customers regarding repair status and recommendations Qualifications & Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required; marine technology certification preferred (e.g., ABYC, Mercury Marine, Yamaha Marine University) Minimum 2 years of hands-on marine repair experience; dealership experience preferred Proficient in diagnosing and repairing marine mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced service department Must have own tools; specialty tools provided by the dealership Valid drivers license; boat handling experience preferred Work Environment & Physical Demands Indoor and outdoor work in marina or service facility settings Exposure to water, weather elements, fuel, and lubricants Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, and work in confined spaces Occasional sea trials requiring work aboard moving vessels Compensation & Benefits Competitive hourly wage or flat-rate pay based on experience [List benefits — e.g., health insurance, paid holidays, retirement plan] [List perks — e.g., OEM training, boating discounts, tool allowances] Industry Keywords (SEO): marine technician jobs, boat mechanic jobs, outboard engine technician, inboard marine mechanic, Yamaha marine technician, Mercury outboard repair careers, Suzuki marine mechanic jobs, Volvo Penta technician, ABYC certified marine mechanic, marine diesel mechanic, boat repair technician, yacht mechanic jobs, marina service technician, boat maintenance technician, marine engine repair careers, marine electrical technician, marine service jobs near me, boat technician job description, marine dealership service technician, certified marine mechanic
