General Ledger (GL) Accountant

General Ledger (GL) Accountant Location: Birmingham, AL (Hybrid) About the Role Were looking for a detail-oriented General Ledger Accountant to support accurate financial reporting and month-end close in a dynamic, growing organization. Agency experience is strongly preferred for this role is ideal for someone who understands project-based accounting, multiple cost centers, and the pace of client-driven work. You'll play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, collaborating cross-functionally, and helping leadership understand the financial story behind the numbers. Key Responsibilities Own and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances Support project/client accounting, including revenue recognition and expense allocation Assist with financial statements and internal reporting Partner with AP, AR, and FP&A to ensure clean financial data Support audits and provide documentation as needed Continuously improve accounting processes and controls Preferred Experience & Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance 3–6+ years of accounting experience Agency, professional services, or project-based accounting experience strongly preferred Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, or similar) Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas) CPA or CPA-track is a plus, not required What Were Looking For Someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-ownership environment Comfortable juggling multiple priorities and deadlines Strong attention to detail without losing sight of the bigger picture Clear communicator who can work across teams Proactive mindset—sees problems before they become problems Why You'll Like It Here Hybrid work model in Birmingham, AL High-impact role with visibility into the business Collaborative, entrepreneurial culture Opportunity to grow with the company and influence processes
