Location: London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham Setting: Mainstream Primary School with Enhanced SEN Provision Contract Type: Full-Time | Long-Term | Term Time Only Start Date: ASAP or Flexible for the Right Candidate The Opportunity We are currently seeking a dedicated, experienced, and emotionally intelligent SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham . This is a long-term opportunity for an SEN professional who is passionate about supporting pupils with autism, communication difficulties, sensory processing needs, and additional learning needs . This role is suited to someone who understands that SEN support goes far beyond classroom assistance. You will play a crucial role in helping pupils regulate their emotions, access learning, build confidence, and develop independence within a structured and nurturing environment. Role Overview As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be working closely with pupils who require consistent one-to-one or small-group support throughout the school day. Many of the pupils you will support have EHCPs and require tailored strategies to help them manage transitions, sensory challenges, and emotional regulation. You will be supported by an experienced SENCO and leadership team, but this role also requires confidence, initiative, and a proactive approach. The successful candidate will be someone who can remain calm under pressure, apply behaviour strategies consistently, and build strong, trusting relationships with pupils. Key Responsibilities Your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: Providing dedicated 1:1 SEN support to pupils with autism and additional needs Supporting pupils in line with EHCP outcomes, individual support plans, and behaviour strategies Helping pupils access the curriculum by adapting tasks and learning materials Supporting communication development and engagement in learning activities Assisting pupils with emotional regulation , managing anxiety, and coping with sensory overload Implementing structured routines and consistent behaviour expectations Supporting pupils during unstructured times , including breaktimes, lunchtimes, and transitions Working closely with class teachers to support lesson delivery and inclusion Liaising with the SENCO and contributing observations for reviews and meetings Promoting independence while ensuring pupils feel safe and supported Maintaining high standards of safeguarding, wellbeing, and professional conduct This role requires patience, resilience, and a genuine commitment to supporting pupils with complex needs. The Ideal Candidate We are looking for an SEN Teaching Assistant who: Has proven experience supporting children with autism and additional needs Is confident delivering 1:1 support within a mainstream school setting Understands the importance of structure, routine, and consistency Can manage challenging behaviour calmly and professionally Is patient, empathetic, and emotionally resilient Can build strong, positive relationships with pupils and staff Is reliable, committed, and takes pride in their work Has a genuine passion for SEN and inclusive education Experience working with EHCPs, sensory needs, or SEMH is highly desirable.
