Higher Education Architecture Director – Maryland | Licensed Architect, Design Leadership Job Summary: Clark Nexsen is seeking a visionary Higher Education Architecture Leader to grow our Maryland practice. This role is perfect for a licensed architect with 18+ years of experience in higher education design, proven business development skills, and a passion for leading collaborative, innovative teams. You will manage large-scale projects ($10M–$50M), mentor top talent, and expand our presence across the Mid-Atlantic region. Key Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of architects, fostering a collaborative and high-performing studio culture. Drive business growth by cultivating client relationships and securing new projects. Oversee large-scale architectural projects from concept to completion, ensuring design excellence, budget compliance, and regulatory adherence. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate innovative design solutions. Recruit and retain top talent to strengthen office capabilities and portfolio. Required Qualifications: Licensed Architect (NCARB preferred) with professional licenses in MD and other Mid-Atlantic/Southeast states. 18+ years of experience in higher education, architectural design, and leadership. Proven track record in business development and client relationship growth. LEED AP Accreditation and SCUP Membership required. Experience managing projects valued at $10M–$50M. Proficiency in Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and graphic modeling is preferred. 7+ years leading architectural teams in senior roles.
