Accounts Officer. The Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN) is a non-profit organization established in 2006 to promote quality and patient safety in healthcare. Through training, advocacy, accreditation, research, and collaboration, SQHN works with healthcare professionals, institutions, and policymakers to embed quality improvement and patient safety into all levels of care. Their mission is to lead, advocate, build capacity, provide education and training, promote collaboration, and offer accreditation, all aimed at transforming healthcare quality in Nigeria. The Opportunity They're seeking an Accounts Officer who will be responsible for managing SQHNs financial operations, including budgeting, accounting, project-based financial management, payroll, tax compliance, and financial reporting. The role is critical to ensuring financial accountability, transparency, and readiness for audits, projects, and donor engagements. This role reports to the Executive Manager, Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN) What You'll Do Accounting & Financial Management Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records, including income, expenditure, receipts, and payment documentation. Manage day-to-day bookkeeping and accounting operations. Maintain general ledgers and supporting schedules. Use accounting software and financial systems to support accurate financial management.. Budgeting & Financial Planning Lead the preparation of the annual organisational budget. Develop and manage project-specific budgets in collaboration with Project Managers and Programme Leads. Track expenditure against budgets and flag variances promptly. Manage cash flow, forecasts, and financial planning activities. Project, Training & Conference Accounting Manage project-based accounting to ensure clear financial separation for accreditation projects, donor-funded initiatives, and trainings and conferences. Maintain financial trackers for each project, training, and conference. Support financial reporting requirements for partners, donors, and regulators. Ensure accurate allocation of costs across programmes and activities. Payroll, Tax & Statutory Compliance Process payroll, staff allowances, and reimbursements. Manage PAYE, pensions, and other statutory deductions. Ensure timely filing and payment of taxes and statutory obligations. Maintain strong working knowledge of Nigerian tax laws and regulations Financial Reporting & Audit Support Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports. Prepare financial summaries for management, Board, and Executive Committee review. Support audits and liaise with external auditors and consultants. Ensure financial documentation meets donor and regulatory requirements. Systems, Controls & Tools Maintain strong financial trackers, templates, and dashboards. Strengthen and maintain internal financial controls and procedures. Contribute to improvements in financial systems as SQHN grows. Ad-hoc Tasks Assist with other administrative and operational duties as assigned by management. What You'll Bring Minimum of 3 years relevant accounting experience. Bachelors degree (BSc) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with strong analytical and data management capabilities. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Hands-on experience with accounting software and financial management systems. Sound knowledge of payroll administration, taxation, and statutory compliance requirements in Nigeria. High level of integrity, accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic, fast-paced team environment. Bonus Points if you have Professional accounting qualification or progress toward one (ICAN, ACCA). Experience working in a project-based or non-profit organization.
