Field Metrology Technician

POSITION SUMMARY Field Metrology Technician (Laser Technician) Employment Type: Direct Hire This field-based role supports precision measurement and alignment services across industrial sites. The position is ideal for a hands-on technician who is comfortable working on-site, traveling extensively, and supporting critical industrial equipment and systems. Compensation & Travel Terms Hourly pay: $25–$35 per hour Field pay structure: First 8 hours — regular rate Over 8 hours — overtime Over 12 hours — double time Travel time paid at regular rate (no overtime or double time) All travel expenses covered Core Responsibilities Perform laser tracking, laser alignment, and precision measurement services Conduct equipment inspections, alignments, and dimensional verification Set up, operate, and maintain laser metrology equipment and software Analyze measurement data and prepare technical reports Collaborate with field service, machining, and operations teams Communicate professionally with clients at job sites Follow safety standards and site requirements Travel frequently to customer locations (approximately 60%) Required Experience 3–5 years of hands-on field metrology experience Strong knowledge of laser trackers, alignment systems, and precision measurement tools Experience in industrial environments (power generation, oil & gas, mining, or heavy manufacturing) Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, and specifications Ability to work independently with minimal supervision Strong attention to detail and documentation skills Willingness to travel extensively (60%) Preferred Background Experience with metrology systems such as Leica, FARO, or API Knowledge of rotating equipment, turbines, compressors, or large industrial assemblies Previous field service or industrial outage experience
