Software Architect

Location: Hybrid Flexible in Malta / Remote from Europe (travel to Malta 1x/quarter). Reporting to: CTO We are seeking a pragmatic Software Architect who thrives on complex technical challenges. You are here to own a legacy casino platform, master its internal logic, and take full control of the infrastructure whilst supporting with hiring the in-house backend team. Your mission Take ownership of an existing third-party casino platform architecture - untangling complexities, designing robust solutions, and fully owning the core logic. Lead the transition to an in-house infrastructure, driving the transformation into a unified, high-performance codebase. Design and evolve scalable architectures for sportsbook, casino, and game studios built to handle massive traffic spikes and real-time data pipelines. Act as the technical decision-maker by defining service boundaries, establishing API contracts, and leading Proof of Concepts (POCs). Expand your scope by contributing to the architectural vision of other exciting initiatives, including proprietary internal tools. Assist in hiring top-tier backend engineers while maintaining your primary focus on high-level architecture. What You Bring At least 2–3 years as an Architect and 8+ years building high-volume, high-availability distributed systems. Strong backend engineering with specific experience in PHP/Laravel to handle the legacy transition. Proven experience designing the architecture for iGaming, fintech, e-commerce, or other similar platforms. Mastery of AWS/GCP, Docker, Kubernetes, and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform/Terragrunt). Ability to lead through technical authority as a hands-on, problem solver. Flexibility to travel to Malta once a quarter in case you are in some other European country. Big Plus If You Also Bring Experience in iGaming, Sportsbook, or Fintech (Wallets, Odds, or Bonus engines). Knowledge of PCI-DSS or gaming regulatory standards.
