SEN Teaching Assistant – Aveley

Support Pupils with Additional Needs in a Nurturing School Environment We are seeking a dedicated, compassionate, and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming primary school in Aveley, starting as soon as possible. The Role As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who have a range of special educational needs, including autism, speech and language difficulties, and social, emotional, and mental health needs. You may provide one-to-one support or work with small groups, depending on pupil needs. You will support pupils both inside and outside the classroom, helping them to access the curriculum, develop independence, and build confidence. The role requires patience, adaptability, and a clear understanding of how to support children with additional needs in a positive and consistent way. You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCo, and other support staff to implement individual support strategies and contribute to progress reviews. Key Responsibilities Provide targeted support to pupils with SEN on a one-to-one or small group basis Support pupils in accessing the curriculum and engaging in learning Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) Support pupils’ social, emotional, and behavioural development Promote independence, confidence, and positive learning behaviours Observe and record pupil progress, feeding back to teachers and SEN staff Support classroom routines and transitions Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCo, and wider staff Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and nurturing learning environment The Ideal Candidate The successful candidate will: Have experience supporting children with SEN in a school or similar setting Be calm, patient, and empathetic Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, reliable, and adaptable Have a good understanding of inclusion and safeguarding Be committed to supporting pupils’ academic and emotional wellbeing Previous experience working with pupils with autism or complex needs would be advantageous, but is not essential for the right candidate.
