SEN Teaching Assistant – Peterborough

We are seeking a caring, patient, and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Peterborough, starting as soon as possible. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about supporting pupils with additional learning needs and helping them thrive both academically and socially. The school has a strong inclusive ethos and is committed to providing personalised support for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs, including learning, communication, and behavioural challenges. Staff work collaboratively to ensure that every child feels included, confident, and supported. Senior leadership is approachable, supportive, and committed to professional development, mentoring, and training opportunities for staff. The Role As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers and the SENCo to provide targeted support for pupils with additional needs. Your responsibilities will include one-to-one support, small-group interventions, and in-class assistance to help pupils access the curriculum. You will support pupils’ social and emotional development, helping them build confidence, resilience, and independence. You will also liaise with parents, carers, and external professionals to provide consistent support and contribute to personalised learning plans that enable pupils to reach their full potential. Key Responsibilities Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils with SEND Assist in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets Support pupils’ academic, social, and emotional development Promote positive behaviour, independence, and confidence Observe, record, and report on pupil progress Work closely with teachers, SENCo, and other support staff Support pupils during lessons, transitions, and break times Contribute to staff meetings, training sessions, and school initiatives Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times Who We’re Looking For The ideal candidate will: Have previous experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school setting Be patient, empathetic, and resilient Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills Be proactive, flexible, and reliable Show a strong commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and pupil wellbeing Location The school is located in Peterborough, with excellent transport links and a supportive local community.
