As such, the school has invested significantly in pastoral support and SEND provision. Due to an increase in pupils requiring additional emotional and behavioural support across Nursery, Reception, and Key Stage 1, the school is now seeking a dedicated Behaviour Mentor to join their team. Purpose of the Role The Behaviour Mentor will work closely with children who experience challenges with emotional regulation, social interaction, behaviour management, or engagement in learning. Many pupils supported in this role may present with SEMH needs, ASD, ADHD, attachment difficulties, or delayed emotional development. You will act as a consistent and trusted adult, helping children to feel safe, supported, and understood. Through structured routines, positive reinforcement, and nurturing relationships, you will help pupils develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and socially. Key Responsibilities Provide tailored 1:1 emotional and behavioural support Deliver small group interventions focusing on social skills and emotional literacy Support children within Nursery and classroom settings Assist pupils during transitions between activities and lessons Support behaviour during playtimes and lunchtime periods Implement individual behaviour support plans Use play-based, restorative, and trauma-informed approaches Work closely with class teachers, EYFS practitioners, and the SENCO Observe, assess, and track pupil progress Maintain clear records and contribute to review meetings Build strong and positive relationships with parents and carers Support safeguarding and child protection procedures at all times The Ideal Candidate The ideal Behaviour Mentor will be calm, empathetic, and emotionally resilient. You will have a genuine passion for supporting young children and an understanding that behaviour is often a form of communication. The school is looking for someone who can demonstrate: Experience working in a Primary, Nursery, or EYFS setting Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, and early childhood development A consistent and positive approach to behaviour support Strong communication and teamwork skills The ability to manage challenging situations calmly A reflective and proactive mindset Experience in childcare, education, psychology, youth work, or mental health is highly valued.
