You’ll join a mission-focused team of engineers, designers, product leaders, and psychologists working side-by-side to shape the future of mental-health care. What you’ll do As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll help shape the foundation of Braive’s AI-powered product suite, including our AI-supported patient and clinical workflows. You’ll design and build backend services that power intelligent clinical tools used by providers and patients alike, while working closely with psychologists and product teams to ensure accuracy, safety, and reliability. You’ll drive hands-on development across Java/Kotlin microservices, integrate and evaluate LLM-based features, and contribute to both greenfield exploration and modernization of core systems. In this role you’ll have real influence on how AI is applied to mental health at scale, helping us build products that meaningfully augment clinical care. Core Responsibilities Design and build backend services (Java/Kotlin) that power Braive’s AI-supported products Integrate and optimize LLM-driven features, including prompt design, evaluation, safety checks, hallucination mitigation, and performance monitoring Work within a microservices and distributed systems architecture deployed on modern cloud environments (AWS/Azure/GCP) Contribute to both greenfield development and modernization of legacy components Collaborate closely with engineering peers, PMs, and clinical leaders to drive product discovery as well as delivery Demonstrate leadership behaviors (ownership, mentoring, high agency) with potential to grow into tech-lead responsibilities over time Maintain high-quality engineering practices in a regulated environment (ISO 27001, MDR, GDPR) Qualifications 4+ years of development experience with Java or Kotlin. Experience with microservices, distributed systems, and cloud-based development (AWS/Azure/GCP). Hands-on prompt engineering experience. Hands-on experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.). Nice to have Background in healthtech, fintech, or edtech. Familiarity with evaluating LLM outputs, including safety, hallucination mitigation, and performance measurement. Familiarity with security-sensitive systems or sensitive data handling. Experience working closely with interdisciplinary teams (e.g., clinicians, researchers).
