Network Engineer

Job Purpose To install, service, and repair communication systems (wired, wireless, or fibre optic) used by the organization. The Network Engineer works closely with the Network Manager to ensure smooth and efficient network operations. Main Responsibilities Network Hardware and Software Configuration, Maintenance & Implementation Install and configure new network software and hardware Identify and repair network faults Implement preventive maintenance schedules Design and implement network environments and solutions Monitor and optimize network performance Conduct fault investigations across LAN and WAN Upgrade network equipment and configure firmware Configure routing, switching, and IP voice services Provide remote support and troubleshooting during installations Ensure quality standards in solutions and installations Create and document network design solutions Collaborate with vendors and technical teams Provide feedback for internal process improvements Oversee on-site engineers and ensure optimal system performance Managing Networks and Security Manage user accounts, access permissions, and passwords Maintain appropriate network security levels Provide technical support and training for network users Monitor and administer daily network usage Plan and implement future network developments Administer and support firewalls as per security policies Keep updated through training, publications, and professional networks Report on network operations and manage technical projects Audit IP addressing and data center devices Liaise with project teams, engineers, service desks, and clients Delegate tasks to engineers/technicians and ensure quality Prepare technical documentation, proposals, and reports Participate in and lead technical workshops Job Requirements Academic Qualifications National Senior Certificate / Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) Professional Certifications (Preferred) CCNP Certified (Routing, Switching, and Security) MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) – Advantageous FortiGate Certification Checkpoint Certification TMG (Threat Management Gateway) Certification Websense Certification Relevant Experience 3+ years of operational experience in a relevant role 5 to 8+ years of experience in the Network IT industry Relevant Competencies and Knowledge Technical Knowledge and Skills Strong problem-solving and analytical skills Up to date with latest networking technologies Advanced IT skills and knowledge of MS Operating Systems Proficient in Microsoft Excel for reporting Excellent written and verbal communication skills Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly Effective time and priority management Strong understanding of client policies, business ethics, and procedures Generic Competencies Decisiveness and Initiative Leadership and Team Supervision Persuasion and Influence Effective Communication and Presentation Technical Expertise Creative Problem Solving Innovation
