Project Engineer Job Description
We seek a skilled Project Engineer to provide technical and functional support for field construction activities on large infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, confident, articulate, and committed to delivering excellence.
Summary/Objective
The Project Engineer will handle field engineering, project engineering, and/or field supervision for major infrastructure projects. Duties include project controls, quantity take-offs, operational planning, cost control, scheduling, material procurement, contract administration, and coordinating field activities. The role involves maintaining records for submittals, job progress, cost projections, and material usage, while ensuring project quality aligns with plans and specifications. The candidate will work with suppliers to ensure timely material delivery to meet project schedules.
Responsibilities
- Review and prepare project submittals and RFIs for owner submission.
- Analyze project plans and specifications, collaborating with the Project Manager and team on requirements, including plan preparation, testing, field conditions, design changes, and reports.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to ensure timely, safe, and high-quality work delivery.
- Track progress and quantities for payment and cost management.
- Assist in developing and updating the CPM schedule weekly, including activity durations and sequencing.
- Support design/drawings for temporary works (e.g., falsework, shoring, formwork).
- Manage procurement and delivery of permanent materials to meet project timelines.
- Ensure work complies with contract plans and specifications, submitting certifications and documentation to quality control personnel.
- Develop safe and efficient work plans for project execution.
- Review shop drawings, as-builts, and other contract documents for accuracy and completeness, submitting them to the owner with required documentation.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (required).
- 1-3 years of DOT or related experience (required).
- Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, BlueBeam, and CAD; familiarity with P6 and HCSS is a plus.
- Ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, has strong interpersonal skills, and thrives in a team environment.
