Job Title: Meat Department Supervisor

Position Overview

The Meat Department Supervisor is tasked with managing all functions of the meat section within a retail grocery environment. This role involves overseeing product stock, ensuring adherence to food safety regulations, leading department personnel, merchandising products, and providing top-notch customer service. The supervisor is responsible for meeting sales and profit goals while upholding superior standards in product excellence and display.

Primary Duties

• Department Management

  • Oversee daily tasks of the meat section including processing, packaging, tagging, and arranging meat items.

  • Ensure workspaces and tools are kept clean and meet health guidelines for safety.

  • Supervise product quality and freshness by managing rotation schedules to prevent expired or spoiled goods.

• Stock & Ordering

  • Keep optimal stock levels; track inventory to reduce waste.

  • Purchase meats and supplies from approved suppliers for timely restocking.

  • Perform regular inventory checks and adjust orders based on market trends and seasonal needs.

• Team Leadership

  • Hire, educate, organize shifts for, and manage staff in the meat department.

  • Conduct evaluations of team performance; guide employees while ensuring they follow company rules.

  • Foster a positive workplace atmosphere that supports efficiency, security practices, and teamwork.

• Customer Interaction

  • Deliver outstanding assistance by guiding customers in selecting products or taking special requests as well as offering cooking tips.

  • Resolve customer issues swiftly with professionalism.

• Promotion & Sales Strategy

  • Implement merchandising plans to enhance sales through appealing displays or pricing strategies.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or certification in meat-cutting preferred.

• At least 3 years’ experience working in a meat department with no less than one year in a management capacity.

Skills & Abilities

• In-depth understanding of various meats along with cutting methods plus food safety protocols.

• Strong leadership abilities accompanied by excellent organizational skills as well as communication proficiency.

• Capability to handle heavy lifting (upwards of 50 lbs), endure prolonged standing periods plus work within chilled environments effectively.

Work Hours

Full-time commitment required potentially involving evenings/weekends/holidays depending on business requirements.
