Devereux Florida provides services for children and families. Based out of Orlando, FL, the Peer Specialist position is responsible for:

  • Working alongside mental health professionals in Mobile Crisis Team and collaborating on client care. Mobile Crisis serves youth and young adults in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole Counties.
  • Using unique, life-altering experiences in order to guide and support others who are in some form of recovery.
  • Assist family member/caregiver with transitions through different treatment settings and navigating multiple systems; find and use traditional and non-traditional health services and supports, as well as community and social support networks.
  • Help family members/caregivers to identify their options and participate in all decisions related to the care of their loved one (minor youth) or to support their loved one to participate in all decisions related to their care (competent adult); develop problem-solving skills so that they can respond to challenges that may arise while supporting their loved one’s recovery process
  • Help family members/caregivers function as advocates for their loved ones and support consumer’s participation as members of their treatment/recovery support team; assist in organizing their time to keep appointments as well as other scheduled contacts with specific providers.
  • Encourage family members/caregivers to assist their loved one in developing independent behavior that is based on choice rather than compliance, share experiences and when to listen, and describe personal experiences and help family members/caregivers to discover how to support and advocate for their loved one while maintaining family health and wellbeing

Position Details:

Salary:  Starts at $16.00 - 18.79 / hr(rate is based on education and relevant experience). 

Schedule: Full time

Location:This position is based out of Orlando, Fl; position is not office-based, however, this position will be working directly with families in the community, including in homes, schools, and other community locations.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Be a self-identified family member/caregiver of an individual is a current of past user of mental health or co-occurring services who can relate to others who are now caring for someone using those services required
  • Certification as a Recovery Peer Specialist or Recovery Support Specialist through the Florida Certification Board or ability to become certified required 
  • Associate degree or higherpreferred
  • Experience in the role of a Peer Specialist: 1-3 years preferred
  • WRAP® preferred
  • Understanding of local school, criminal justice, behavioral health and other community systems; Recovery Principles, practices, and tools.
  • Basic understanding and ability to use/navigate Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid Fl Drivers License
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Successfully pass pre-employment medical screenings which include: Drug Test, and TB Test
