Special Education Substitute Teacher – Elementary Autistic Support

 

Devereux is seeking a Substitute Special Education Teacher to provide substitute services within Neshaminy School District's Elementary Autistic Support Program.

 

This is an excellent opportunity to work in a highly supportive educational environment focused on helping students with autism achieve academic, social, and behavioral success.

 

Position Highlights

  • Location: Neshaminy School District
  • Setting: Elementary Autistic Support Classroom
  • Class Size: Up to 8 students per classroom
  • Schedule:On-Call, 10-Months:  M-F: 8:20-3:50 pm.This position is aligned with the school calendar with opportunities for extended school year program in summer break
  • Salary: $160 per day
  • Position Start: '26 -'27 School Year

Under the supervision of the Director of the Devereux Center for Effective Schools (CES) and the Neshaminy School District Special Education Supervisor, the Per Diem Substitute Special Education Teacher provides instructional support to students in an Autistic Support classroom.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher.
  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with autism and related learning needs.
  • Maintain a positive, structured, and supportive learning environment.
  • Monitor and assess student progress toward academic and behavioral goals.
  • Support the implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and other support staff to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Adapt instruction and classroom activities to meet individual student needs.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and follow district and special education procedures.

Long-Term Assignments: For assignments extending over multiple days, weeks, or months, the Substitute Special Education Teacher may be responsible for developing lesson plans and instructional activities aligned with curriculum requirements, previous lesson plans, and student IEP goals.

 

About DESS:

Devereux Educational Strategies and Solutions (DESS) provides support to schools around early learning, academic interventions, safety practices and the assessment and treatment of students with complex behaviors, cognitive challenges and communication needs. We use evidence-based practices with an emphasis on assisting school systems with special education populations.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Master’s degree in Special Education preferred. PA Special Education Teacher full or substitute certification required.   

 

EXPERIENCE: Previous Special Education Teacher experience preferred, will also consider student teaching experience. School experience required.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Significant amounts of walking, sitting, and standing. Some lifting and/or managing resistance required related to applying physical intervention techniques – upwards of 75-100 lbs. or more. Some repetitive wrist/hand movements, normal hearing and vision. Occasional use of computers and office equipment. Ability to meet 100% mastery of district-adopted crisis prevention and intervention techniques.
