Tasks Inside the Role The ICE Powertrain Engineering team is responsible for the development, design, and integration of powertrain systems into industry-leading heavy-duty specialty vehicles. ICE Powertrain includes engines, transmissions, air intake, cooling systems, and exhaust/aftertreatment for on-highway vehicle chassis models produced by Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation. We Take Care of Our Team The position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 to $110,000 USD. Pay is dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience. Benefits include: - Annual bonus program - 401k company contribution with company match up to 6% and non-elective company contribution of 3% to 7% depending on age - Starting at 4 weeks of paid vacation - 13+ calendar holidays - 8 weeks of paid parental leave - Employee assistance program - Comprehensive healthcare plans and wellness programs - Onsite fitness (at some locations) - Tuition assistance and volunteer paid time off - Short-term and long-term disability plans What You Drive at DTNA - Use computer-aided engineering (CAE) to solve complex vehicle design problems using finite element analysis (FEA), multi-body simulation (MBS), and fatigue analysis - Design and develop mechanical products, components, or systems, applying mechanical engineering principles to create products, components, and systems that involve movement - May be involved in designing product-specific manufacturing production processes and equipment - Collaborate with marketing and industrial design teams to develop products that meet technical and functional specifications as well as manufacturing cost and efficiency requirements - Support and participate in the design, testing, modification, fabrication, and assembly of prototype mechanical products and assemblies Knowledge You Should Bring - A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering OR an associate's degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years of related experience OR 6+ years of design engineering experience - Full understanding of theories, practices, and procedures related to the job field - Experience and understanding of medium and heavy-duty commercial vehicle systems - Ability to work within standard practices to analyze information and solve problems of limited scope - Demonstrated teamwork and strong written and verbal communication skills, including cross-functional collaboration - Understanding of engineering and manufacturing processes and their downstream impacts - Experience with 3D CAD design (Siemens NX preferred) - An attached resume is required Exceptional Candidates Might Have - Working knowledge of DTNA Engineering Documentation systems - Project management experience - Strong oral and written communication skills - Passion for automotive - Hands-on and practical application of engineering skills - Experience in technical writing Where We Work This position is open to applicants who can work in or relocate to Gaffney, SC, US.
