In this position, you will support the ePowertrain Development Group as the High Voltage Charging Engineer – ECU owner, EVCC, which encompasses the communication and logic of the High Voltage Charging system with the charging station. This individual will be supporting the control strategy, requirements, and implementation of global features/functions for the HV charging system, ensuring cohesive software and network communication is achieved with the charging systems controller, the EVCC. You will also be investigating future evolution of control strategies that would lead to optimal charging control and performance for our customers. Additional responsibilities include conducting and participating in functional safety reviews, DFMEA, and supporting the definition of charging system test and sign-off.

Position offers a starting salary range of $86,000 to $110,000 USD.

Pay offered is dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What You Drive at DTNA

Responsibilities include: - Lead the development of the electric vehicle charging controller (EVCC) for our electric vehicle programs - Create, develop, and maintain the component requirement specification for the EVCC - Coordinate with suppliers for the implementation of requirements from the EVCC component specification, ensuring fulfillment according to specification - Lead the design, validation, and production readiness of the EVCC, collaborating with suppliers for hardware and software tests for on-vehicle lifetime and durability - Select and recommend internal components for the EVCC - Develop strategy for diagnostics and programming, processes, and tools for the EVCC in accordance with Daimler Truck software and electronics processes and tools - Support NAFTA-specific regulatory requirements for OBD/diagnostics pertaining to electric truck regulation in conjunction with Daimler Truck’s software and electronics group - Integrate diagnostic and programming requirements of the EVCC into electronic systems on Freightliner electric trucks, ensuring seamless support in tools and systems for engineering, manufacturing, and service - Document the EVCC for manufacturing plants, including bills of materials, part numbers, revisions, drawings, and parameter creation to enable configuration management for the charging system - Create and support wiring designs and diagrams for the EVCC to enable seamless communication of the controller with multiple vehicle networks - Manage Change Requests for the EVCC, including modification of component specifications, documentation, and supplier negotiations for implementation of new requirements or bug fixes - Maintain the Vehicle Messaging Matrix (VMM) pertaining to the charging system controller (EVCC) - Lead over-the-air flash-ability and parameterization of the EVCC for software updates, remote support of test vehicles, and production service campaigns - Sign off on charging system features and functions in test trucks - Support initial commissioning and startup of new electric test trucks - Maintain and support the charging test bench with hardware and software updates, along with test case development and management for verification tests for the EVCC - Partner with global engineers for the joint development and sign-off of the EVCC as a component of the charging system - Diagnose reported field complaints and issues related to the charging system, analyze vehicle behaviors, and propose solutions for a seamless charging experience for customers - Support interoperability workshops with the infrastructure team, providing controller updates, diagnosis, and improvements relevant to the EVCC and charging system - Assist the purchasing department with the selection of suppliers related to the EVCC, including negotiations of change requests with potential commercial impact and review for upper management sign-off - Follow product validation, manufacturing engineering, service, IT, and quality guidelines for approval and sign-off of the EVCC - Support functional safety analysis for the high voltage charging system, including creation of relevant documentation and product creation processes - Ensure the EVCC complies with Functional Safety ISO26262 requirements, working with FuSa and compliance engineers to define requirements - Verify and develop high voltage charging features by participating in testing activities and workshops, collaborating closely with global software developers on EVCC requirements - Provide engineering support to the vehicle production team to address manufacturing process issues related to the EVCC and the high voltage charging system - Participate in relevant committees to help align the high voltage charging team within the broader engineering organization - Broaden your expertise beyond immediate responsibilities and become an expert in eMobility.

Knowledge You Should Bring

Requirements include: - Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics Engineering, or Computer Science - 2 to 4 years of experience in electric powertrain charging or high voltage systems development - 2 to 4 years of experience developing systems or software for electric vehicles, with familiarity in vehicle networks and communication protocols like CAN - Demonstrated familiarity with all aspects of ECU development and high voltage controller technology - 2 to 4 years of experience designing embedded systems, especially controls development for series production of zero-emission vehicle projects - Knowledge of mechatronic systems interaction in the automotive industry - Proven experience working with cross-functional international teams to implement software and control requirements - Proven track record in vehicle electrification and adaptability to dynamic environments - Passion for vehicle electrification and inventing the future of transportation - Strong organizational skills, ability to manage multiple detailed tasks, and professionalism in working with various levels of DTNA management - Customer-oriented mindset with a passion for developing customer-focused solutions - Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills - Detail-oriented, reliable, and self-motivated - Ability to work in an environment of ambiguity and ongoing change.
