Inside the Role

The Vehicle Control & Upfit team is responsible for the development and integration of Body controller ECUs and Body Builder/TEM Interface ECUs. These components interact with many features in the vehicle from Ignition and power management, safety interlocks, lightning, and switches to drivetrain and Vocational topics. We work daily in a global team with MBT, FUSO, Daimler Buses, and other Daimler Truck business units. Our engineering team drives innovation by developing cutting-edge software and hardware for next-generation trucks. We are seeking a passionate IO Component Development Engineer to join our team in Portland, OR, USA, and be part of the technology transformation to a Software Define Vehicle (SDV), leveraging a High-Power Computer (HPC) architecture. Position offers a starting salary range of $117,000 to $150,000 USD. Pay offered depends on knowledge, skills, and experience. What You Drive at DTNA

Develop the next generation of IO family for Software Define Vehicle, and scalability for all Truck and Busses platforms. Lead and coordinate with all regions, in Truck and Busses platforms, the development of IO Cabin, IO Cab Expansion, and IO Chassis. Lead and create with the regions the technical specification of the IOs for RfQ. Align with regions the pinning for all IOs and identify the best technical concept to guarantee a flexible PIN control, independent of VMM updates. Coordinate with multiple teams for the technical specification development, such as powernet, architecture/communication network, FuSa, CyberSecurity, SW stack, and others. Meet with I/O suppliers to align the technical concept and review best product offerings. Align project timelines, system design, validation, and issue resolving with our Global team. Support Demo Truck activities and adapt current ASAM for first SDV demonstrations. Mentor junior engineers in the team by delegating technical tasks and guiding them through the resolution. Report to stakeholders.

Knowledge You Should Bring

Bachelor’s degree in electrical or software engineering from an accredited university/college. 5 years of experience in automotive ECU Hardware and Software development. Previous experience working in a global development organization with teams and colleagues across the world. 5 years of experience in identifying and solving the root cause of complex problems, and 2 years leading and mentoring others on that matter. Working knowledge of CAN databus, embedded controllers is required. 5 years of experience in using Vector tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, and related debugging tools) for troubleshooting, bus analysis, and ECU testing. 3 years of experience in model-based software development tools and methods, and with AUTOSAR ECUs. 5 years of experience in developing and analyzing electrical circuits for automotive applications (including schematic review, component selection, and failure mode analysis). 3 years of experience with body control features and systems in trucks or commercial vehicles. Excellent communication skills to interact with suppliers, customers, and market councils. Knowledge of input/output circuits and signal conditioning for automotive sensors/actuators. Ability to document technical concepts clearly (e.g., requirements specs, test reports) for diverse stakeholders. Ability to balance trade-offs between performance, cost, and safety.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

Over 3 years of experience in the role of ECU component owner. Functional safety ISO26262. Cybersecurity development experience.

Hold a valid existing Visa (L1A, L1B, L2, TN, H1B, H4 EAD, OPT EAD, CPT). Daimler Truck North America employees working under an existing U.S. Daimler Truck North America Visa.
